A girl's new best friend..

So I have a new hero.

The thing about hero's is that they're usually so unassuming, and you get knocked off your feet by the changes they make, and they just want to make a difference.

So imagine my surprise when I'm net-jonesing this morning on my day off, I take a peek on http://www.mylifetime.com/ to check out the new show in their stable 'How To Look Good Naked'. It's hosted by Carson Kressley (The sassy fashion homo from 'Queer Eye'), and is unbelievably impowering. And no, I don't mean in that faux Spice Girl way, more in a tough love 'your being so unkind to yourself and it needs to stop' kind of way. Imagine being a super curvy girl and have him strip you down to your undies on a national TV show, and has you go through yourself head to toe with what you like/dislike about your body. It's not about making over (well, there is an element, but it's not the primary focus), it's about how we percieve ourselves and how others percieve us.

The show is peppered with facts and figures that only reaffirm how unkind we treat ourselves and set ourselfs up for these unrealistic goals, towards these freak of nature that are supermodels! Not to mention, fair comparison to other ladies..It's a gentle wake-up call that all this self-loathing only makes the problem worse.

To top it all off, Carson is neither patronizing, nor creates an image that neither the audience or girl could possibly replicate without the help of paid professionals. He's in stores we can afford, and reminds us that our loving ourselves shines 10 fold to have everyone else lov eis too!

By the end of this show, this girl was all about body love, right down to asking strangers on the street if her 3 storey billboard of herself looked good naked.

This show isn't about glorifying or encouraging being overweight, but more about teaching that change can only come before self-resepct and being kind to number 1. Getting this country out of obesity and weight is most certainly an issue. But this country, especially its females (myself included!) has to learn how to love themselves before it can cleary see how we need to make an impact.

Mr. Carson Kressley...you've DEFINITELY made my christmas card list.

Its A Family Tradition

I don't think my family is conditioned for being low maitenence. We somehow even manage to make a drama of not making drama, and I don't think I have experienced a holiday where there has been free of blood/sweat/tears.

Living stateside is has gotten considerably less, and I find myself mellowing out a lot more as each event passes. Maybe my kids will be actually normal, and generally fuss free.

Note to self however, and for all you readers out there..If you are going to serve something with suet in it, and its not as fine as flour, for heavens sake MICROWAVE IT FIRST! Unless you like looking at the saturated fat your about to consume...

Anyway, as belated as this is...FELIZ NAVIDAD!

entitlement whores

So many questions about what is wrong...Is it wrong to allow somone to come to work with the flu, but send them home with pink eye ? Is it wrong to want your father-in-law to stop using your living room as a makeshift bedroom ? Is it wrong to not want houseguests for the next year ? Is wrong to tell a customer your not going to give her an adjustment on her bill because she went over, based upon a recommendation 4 bills ago tha she lower her plan to reduce money, and thus save her cash per month ? We can only make recommendations based on her past useage, we're not fucking psychics!! The nerve...Thats like taking a size 2 jeans back to the store 6 months later and asking for a refund because YOU got fat...

A huski Ruski

Why do Russian and Eastern European men aways sound like they've just drunk a bathtub full of vodka and are about to come at you with a knife ?

Only one more sleep until I get I report on my family and their ongoing passive agressive baby-mama drama. I think a dual purpose is going to be served by changing names for privacy and much hilarity. The cast of Toy Story would be perfect, although I can't decide if my sister-inlaw is a bitchy bo-peep or the t-re....WAIT....the sadistic kid next door who likes to hack up toys.

bucking the stereotypes

Ok... I know I might sound like a total schmuck here, but I am of the firm belief that a lot of stereotypes aren't created for a reason! Like most americans really are obnoxious, and people from bluegrass country really do just sound like I saw them on jerry springer last week?? Maybe I'm just bitter and these stereotypes come out of the woodwork when americans are pissed off and call me at corporation x and expect a free lunch, and in my clipped aussie accent that I will not help them. It could be worse, having people yell at me in an american accent is far better than my own clan. Smart ass black guys, bitchy Jersey/ Rhode Island girls... Bring them on..

life and times of a call center lemming

Oh the bain of being a pawn for a major corporation. Let's look on the brightside... At least I don't have to desk share with someone who fakes an american accent, renames himself Chad despite having a surly Bangladesh accent and smells like curry. Looking forward to duking it out in a few days with the family... At least there's a husband and a daquiri...peace out.
